Xuanwei Coatings Co. of the United States made an experiment in 2002 when it designed a square plastic coating packaging container Twist & Pour with a side handle, an easy-to-dump outlet and a screw cap. In 2003, the packaging cans won the American Association of Industrial Designers Gold Award.
 
 
 
At present, the plasticization of coatings packaging cans in the United States has gradually become a trend. KW Plastics, based in Troy, Alabama, has declared itself the world's largest supplier of TruSnap plastic coatings packaging containers. KW Plastics is a major recycler of high-density polyethylene and polypropylene. The company opened an Alabama plant in 1981 to recycle PP from battery shells. In 1986, the company opened a factory in Bakersfield, California, and established KW Plastics Recycling in 1992 to recycle high-density polyethylene. KW began to produce plastic and metal mixed coatings containers in 1998, and expanded to use 100% recycled materials in all plastic injection moulding coatings packaging containers.
 
 
 
Before the popularity of plastic coatings packaging containers in the North American coatings market, it was the first to be widely accepted in the European market. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of its customer Cofabrill, Verstraete IML, a Belgian consumer goods packaging manufacturer, launched a paint packaging bucket in 2016 for Zolpan, the company's professional paint product, which uses a golden inlay injection technology.
 
 
 
Recently, RPCSuperfos, an injection and thermoforming packaging design development and manufacturer based in Taastrup, Denmark, began supplying plastic packaging cans for the interior and exterior walls of Helios, a Slovenian paint manufacturer. Helios chose RPCSuperfos's SuperOval container because of its user-friendly, light weight and sustainability features.
 
 
 
Previously, Helios paint products generally used metal packaging, but with the increasing popularity of water-based paint, the company has decided to switch to plastic packaging containers, and stipulated that its wall paint will only use plastic packaging cans and buckets, "because more people appreciate the quality of these containers."

EU plans to recycle plastic packaging by 2030

Tocombatenvironmentalpollution,theEuropeanUnionhasannouncedaplantorecycleplasticpackaging.Undertheplan,theEuropeanUnionwillendtheuseofplasticproducts,includingdisposablecoffeecups,by2030.TheEuropeanCommissionsaidithopedtoimprovetherecyclingefficiencyofplasticpackagingthroughtheplanandensurethatallplasticpackagingcouldberecycledorreusedby2030.Inaddition,theEUhopestocreatenewbusinessopportunitiesthroughtheplan.   Atthesametime,theEUwilldevelopnewmeasurestoimprovetherecyclabilityofplasticproductsusedinthemarket,increasetheuseofrecycledplasticcomponents,andimprovetheplasticrecyclingmechanismtoestablishamoreadvancedandstandardizedgarbagesortingandcollectionsystem.Becauseplasticparticlescanenterthehumanbodythroughair,waterandfood,theplanalsoincludesmeasurestolimittheuseofplasticparticlesincosmeticsanddetergents.   Statisticsshowthat85%ofbeachwasteworldwideisplasticwaste.Asaresult,themeasuresannouncedbytheEuropeanUnionalsoincludecleaningup700kilogramsofplasticwastewashedashoreeveryday.Atthesametime,theEUalsoplanstoreducethegenerationofmarinelitterfromthesource,andtodevelopnewrulesfortheportandshippingindustrytoensurethatthewastegeneratedbyshipsatseawillnotbedischargedintothesea,butbetransportedbacktolandandhandledproperly.   TheEuropeanCommissionwillprovideguidancetomembergovernmentsandEuropeanenterprisesonhowtominimizeplasticwasteatsourceandsupportrelatedtechnologicalinnovation.TheEUsaiditwouldprovideanadditional100millionby2020todevelopmorerecyclableplasticmaterials,improverecyclingprocessesandtrackandremoveharmfulsubstancesandpollutantsfromrecycledplastics.   Regardingthereasonsforlaunchingtheplan,theEUsaidthattheextensiveuseofplasticpackaginginEuropehascausedalarmingwaste,andplasticwasteisoftendifficulttodecompose,whichhasbroughtseriousenvironmentalproblems.TheEuropeanCommissionpointedoutthatonly5%oftheeconomicvalueofplasticpackagingmaterialscanberetainedineconomicactivities,andtheremaining95%willdisappearafterthefirstuse.Itwastes70billionto105billioneurosayearinEurope.Inaddition,theEUproducesabout25milliontonsofplasticwasteannually,buttherecoveryrateislessthan30%.Non-recyclableplasticwastetakeshundredsofyearstodecompose.Asasinglecommoditymarket,theEUhastheresponsibilitytoparticipateinsolvingtheseproblems.   "TheEUalsohopestohelptheregion'seconomygraduallytransformintoacirculareconomythroughtheplan."YurkiKatynin,vicepresidentoftheEuropeanCommissionforemployment,growth,investmentandcompetitiveness,saidthatwhileprotectingtheEuropeanenvironmentfromplasticpollution,theplancouldalsopromoteeconomicgrowthandtechnologicalinnovationintheEuropeanUnion.Bychangingthedesign,production,useandrecyclingofplasticproducts,newinvestmentandemploymentschemescanbecreated,thusaddingmomentumtotheEU'seconomicgrowth.Undertheplan,theEUwilldoagoodjobinrecycling,curbingplasticwaste,eliminatinglitteringatsea,promotinginvestmentinnovationandstimulatingglobalchange.   Catherinebelievesthattheplanisalso"agoodopportunityforEuropeanindustrytoestablishagloballeadingpositioninnewtechnologiesandmaterials".HeaddedthatsincethereisnocompletesetofstandardsandthereisnospecificplasticrecyclingmarketinEurope,itisimperativetoestablishamarket.   AccordingtotheEuropeanAssociationofPlasticManufacturers,theoutputvalueoftheplasticindustryintheEUreached340billioneurosin2015,withmorethan1.5millionpeopleemployed.TheEUplanstocreate200,000newjobsintheplasticwastesortingandrecyclingindustryby2030.
